About WBC

WBC is made up of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who are selected based on their teacher's recommendation, writing samples, and oral communication skills.  WBC students gain valuable experiences in technology, oral communication skills, film editing, shot composition, research, writing, and the inquiry-based learning process.

WBC students produce bi-monthly, closed-circuit broadcasts for the entire school to enjoy.  Their broadcasts focus on promoting student health and wellness and also focus on topics that are of interest to our students.  Our students give up their morning and afternoon recess to be a part of WBC as well as their own time after school.

Our students were featured in both MidWeek and Honolulu Magazine in 2012 for their recent first place awards at the 2012 'Olelo Youth Xchange Awards.  They grabbed the top prize for their "Filet-o-Fat" and "Walking to School Safely" videos in the Start Living Healthy and Traffic Safety divisions.  In 2013, they nabbed three first place awards at the 'Olelo Youth Xchange Awards and in 2014, they received a finalist nomination and three nominations in 2015! In 2016, we were able to secure another award and Sony camera with our video titled "An Ode to Trash".

Students who are interested in joining WBC should keep an eye out every April when the selection process begins.
