1. Assignment: My Recipe for Calm

Objective: Learn how practicing gratitude can help manage stress by creating your own "Recipe for Calm."

Directions:

  1. Title Your Paper:

    • Write "My Recipe for Calm" at the top of your paper.

  2. Start with Gratitude:

    • Begin by listing "3 spoonfuls of Gratitude" as the first ingredient. Think about things you're thankful for.

  3. Add Specific Ingredients of Gratitude:

    • One thing you see every day: Choose something you see daily that makes you feel good.
    • One thing or person that makes you laugh: Think about someone or something that consistently makes you laugh or smile.
    • One song that you love: Write down a song that uplifts your mood whenever you hear it.

  4. Expand Your Recipe:

    • Now add your own ingredients that help you feel calm. Aim to list at least 5 items. Here are some examples to get you started:
      • Three Deep Breaths: Think about taking deep breaths to relax.
      • Two Cups of Exercise: Consider activities like walking, running, or playing a sport.
      • One Tablespoon of Alone Time: Set aside some quiet time for yourself.

  5. Decorate Your Recipe:

    • Add decorations or drawings to your recipe paper to make it visually appealing.

Continued Learning Focus:

Math: Today, we further explored finding the volume of a rectangular prism. Please remind students to study for the Volume Lesson 1 Quiz on Wednesday, 8/21.

Grammar: We delved into the concepts of simple predicates, complete predicates, simple subjects, and complete subjects.

ELA/Science Exploration:

  • Our discussions on survival in extreme conditions included reading "Ready to Survive" and learning about hypothermia.
  • Students began writing a piece focusing on text structure, specifically using cause and effect related to hypothermia and dehydration.
SEL: 
  • We also initiated a character strong lesson on respect.
  • Additionally, students started to create "About Me" slides to share with the class.
