Aloha Families, April 3, 2020

I hope this email finds all of you well.

My office hours are M/W/F 8am to 10am, and T/Th from 12p-2p. I will be holding class during my office hours.

This coming week April 6-9 I will meet with all C2 students as a whole group for the first hour of “class”  via Webex. Following class I will offer students time to battle each other on Prodigy at:        http://play.prodigygame.com/    Look for a separate email with a link to join the Webex meetings for next week.

I truly miss seeing all of my students and look forward to seeing them online. Meeting as a whole group will give students the opportunity to see and reconnect with classmates. I look forward to seeing everyone at Monday morning’s online Webex meeting!

*Note no meeting Friday April 10 holiday Good Friday.

Starting the week of April 13 to 17 I will meet with students in small groups. I’ll assign each student to a  small group which will be held during my office hours. Each group will meet for 50 minutes. If you have a preferred day or time to meet please let me know.

Family Letter

Dear First Grade Families, March 26, 2020

We hope you are all doing well despite such difficult circumstances.  The First Grade teachers have been thinking of you and your children as each day brings new changes to our lives.  When we parted ways before spring break we never imagined things to be altered so drastically. We are aware of the continuous updates from the DOE. Currently, schools will remain closed to students until April 30th 2020 so please remember we will be communicating with you regularly throughout this time through email. (Teacher emails are located at the bottom of this letter).

With regards to our school schedule, we, like you, continue to watch daily state press conferences for updates.  Your child's education is a very high priority for us and we have collaborated as a grade level team to discuss what we can do for them. The DOE has suggested a daily scheduling that your child could follow to provide a more structured time. For the schedule, please follow the provided link below. The following are suggestions to help provide your child with more specific support as they work on their Reading, Math, and Science.

Daily Schedule Days 1-5

First Graders should have a firm foundation on the following skills:

  • Ask and answer questions about a fiction and nonfiction text.
  • Describe the elements in a story (e.g. beginning middle and end, characters, setting, problem/solution, central message ect.)
  • Know and apply phonics/spelling rules (i.e. phonics/spelling rules from weekly spelling lists such as short vowels, 2-3 letter blends, long vowels, silent letters, etc.) to read and decode words.
  • Identify , write, and apply all letter sounds
  • Identify and write all capital and lowercase letters
  • Use correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling when writing.

  • Count to 120 by ones and tens
  • Count forward from any given number
  • Add and subtract fluently within 1-20
  • Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems
  • Tell/show how many tens and ones are in a number
  • Determine 10 more and 10 less
  • Determine the missing number in an equation (e.g. 7+ ? =12 , 12- ? = 7)
