Major Units of Study in Grade 3

Hawaii' Plantation Past
In Social Studies, students will complete a history unit that focuses on Hawaii's past as a plantation oriented community.  The children will discover their roots, appreciate the heritage of others, and gain a sense of what is was like living on a sugar plantation in the old days.  A trip to Hawai'i's Plantation Village in Waipahu is planned as part of this unit.

Water Birds of Oahu
In science students will explore native water birds of O’ahu and their wetland habitat.  The birds studied include migratory shorebirds, waterfowl, and seabirds.  A visit to a wetland is included to enhance concepts and information studied in this unit.

Moon and Stars
Students will safely observe and describe the basic movements of the sun and moon.  They will also describe that constellations stay the same, though they "appear" to move across the night sky.

Water Cycle
Students will be able to describe how the water cycle is related to weather and climate.
They will learn about stewardship
and their role in water conservation.
